The Off Season

After a long and hard season, full of ups and downs, the off-season offers you the opportunity to stop, sit down and reflect on the season past.

But after a few weeks of reflecting, you are ready to put your body on the line and prepare for the upcoming season.

The off-season is a chance to increase your potential and focus on training to give you the highest reward and personal growth.

Here are a few off-season tips that will get you ahead of the competition for the upcoming season

Set a Goal

Staying motivated without a goal in sight during the off-season can be challenging. At the same time, your overall goal might be to get in better shape. Being in better shape might not always be enough to keep you motivated.

It's essential to look beyond that and focus on areas of improvement and growth. Write down your goals and have a plan and schedule to keep you on track and focused on the upcoming season.

Try or Play a Different Sport

Change can sometimes be as good as rest.

If you enjoy training and do not want to take your foot off the pedal during the off-season, you may want to try a new sport like swimming, cycling, running, or stand-up paddle boarding.

This will allow your body and mind time to recharge while maintaining general fitness.

Active Recovery

We all look forward to putting out feet up, relaxing, and recovering during the off-season.

But you must keep yourself moving and stay active.

Doing Yoga and Mobility exercises can help with active recovery

Yoga will help improve your flexibility, balance, core strength, and breathing. In contrast, Mobility will help improve your range of motion and allow you to move freely without any stress and stiffness.

Nutrition

During the off-season, you may gain weight.

This happens as you are not as active as you are during the season or you continue to eat the same amount of food as you would during the season.

It will be essential to watch and track your food intake during the off-season or consult with a sports nutritionist.

Get Rid of Niggles

During the season, you may pick up niggles and injuries along the way and haven't had time to full recovery due to a busy season schedule.

The off season is your chance to rest and assess your niggles and injuries with a physiotherapist.

You will be able to incorporate your rehab and prescribed exercise in your off-season training routine.

The off-season allows you to assess and reflect on the past season. It will allow you to re-group and focus on returning stronger, faster, and fitter for the upcoming season.
