The Budding Cricketer

What is Passion? Passion is a strong liking to and dedication to something.

When sportsmen and women like Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps, Brian Lara, and Serena Willams speak about their sport, you can hear their passion in their voices, which drives them to be great.

Meet Ross Taylor, a budding young cricketer from South Africa with great passion and love for the sport.

Ross started playing cricket at 6 when he joined the DB Smashers cricket team.

But his cricketing journey started as soon as he could hold and bat, and his dad and mum used to toss him the ball down their passage.

What makes cricket a unique sport is that it brings people together and is one of the core sports in South Africa; cricket makes Hong Kong feel like home.

Ross's Biggest cricketing inspirations are his Dad, Denver, and South African All Rounder Wiaan Mulder, a quick sharp bowler.

Ross's dad was also a good cricketer, playing for Eastern u18 in South Africa.

He offers a lot of support, encouragement, and guidance. He is the team manager of the u13 DB Smashers Cricket team.

Ross sees himself as a player who supports his teammates when the chips are down and looks to impact the game with the bat or ball positively.

Over the last few years Ross and achieved a lot of success in his cricket.

In the 2020 - 2021 season, his u11 DB Smashers team won the pool two league and, recently, was selected for the Hong Kong Cricket Young Talent Scheme.

Being selected Hong Kong Cricket Young Talent Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for Ross, as it allows him to practice more on developing his game and cricketing skills.

Looking into the future, Ross sees himself playing Provincial Cricket in South Africa, either for the Lions or the Titans.

With your passion and love for the game, I’m sure you will reach your cricketing goals.

Good luck to you and the DB Smashers for the rest of the season!
