Discovery Bay's sporting community is filled with many people who can inspire and motivate us to do great things. One community member who has been on the go is Stephanie Perrault.
Originally from Canada, Steph (known to her friends) has been living in Discovery Bay for four years. Steph developed a passion for sports from an early age, and this has continued into adulthood. She enjoys being part of a team and enjoys challenging herself physically.
For Steph, there is something special and addictive about the adrenaline rush before a game or sporting event.
Over the last few weeks, Steph has challenged herself physically. Despite taking part in DB Dad Bod session at 6:00 am, she took on the challenge of taking part in the Peng Chau Island swim and the Hong Kong Triathlon at Plover Cove
Both events were a week apart!
The Peng Chau Island swim was Steph's first Open Water Race in Hong Kong. Open water can be very challenging and daunting for experienced swimmers. You have to deal with the ocean current and poor visibility.
For most races, you will be given a course map before race day and pictures of the ocean current so that you can plot your course.
In the Peng Chau Island Swim, Steph was 11th overall and 2nd in her age group category, out of 84 swimmers.
She enjoyed the experience and looks to do more Open Water swim in the future. She might take on the 3km Peng Chau Island swim next year or the famous Hong Kong Cross Harbour Swim.
Steph started doing triathlons in 2014. Being active in swimming and running she thought why not give it a go! Biking is not her strongest discipline but she has been hooked ever since.
Triathlons can be challenging. You are competing in three different sporting disciplines in one race. The Plover Cove Triathlon was Steph's first Triathlon since the birth of her second child and the first where both her kids got to see her race.
There's no better feeling to her than hearing your kids cheering GO MOMMY! It gives you an extra boost to swim, run and bike that little faster
With all the cheering and support, Steph place 2nd in age category.
Steph hopes that her kids seeing their mom participate in Open Water or Triathlon events will truly inspire them and see that their mom is a great role model!
Many of us, have aspirations to try new things, but in the back of our minds, we have no idea where to start or how to fit training into our busy schedule.
It's all about Balance. Steph says it's important to eat and rest well. Train when possible, but she wants to encourage you to give it a go. Hong Kong has so much to offer when it comes to trail running, road running, aquathons and triathlons.
Get out there and have fun!
