As the school year comes to an end, and we get ready for the summer holidays we are looking forward to some downtime and spending quality time with family and friends.
But in the back of our minds, we are wanting to stay active and not lose those fitness gains we have worked so hard to achieve during the year.
For some of us, we may think this is impossible to achieve as we will be busy and on the go for most of the holidays, so where would we find the time to work out?
Here are some tips for you to stay active and help you maintain your fitness during the holidays:
Have a Plan
Commit by planning your workout schedule.
If you are staying with family, find out if there are gyms nearby, exercise groups, or running trails you can join and do during your stay.
Even though your workout schedule may have to change, you have already committed yourself to exercise, and squeezing a session in during a different time slot may not have a big impact on your workout plan.
Pack Travel-Friendly Training Equipment
You may be unsure what training equipment family or friends may have when you visit them for the holidays
This may mean that you have to bring your own.
TRX and Resistance Bands are great for travels and you could use them for quick strength work out and they do not take up much space in your luggage.
You may also want to consider wearing running or walking shoes. There might be a 20-minute window where people may be having some downtime. This would be great opportunity to go for a run or walk.
Exercise as a Family
Exercising on your own can be boring and you have you struggling for motivation.
Get your family involved in your routine during your holidays. Exercising as a family allows you to spend time together, encourage and hold each other accountable.
Exercising as a family can have positive long-term effects after the holidays and is a routine that can be part of your everyday life.
Look on Line
It may be difficult to stick to the workout routine you have at home during the holidays.
This may present you with the opportunity to try new workouts and adapt to your surroundings.
The internet is a great resource and exercise routines and training sessions can be found on Social Media and YouTube.
You will find many exercises and workout sessions that are easy to follow, well-guided and they are only a click away.
Even though your holidays are a time to destress, put your feet up and relax, exercising during your holidays can help you combat holiday stress, give your holiday schedule structure, gives you more energy during your holiday, and helps you manage excess calories.
