Olympic Games

From 26 July - 11 August, all eyes will be in Paris, the proud host of the world's most significant sporting event, the Summer Olympics. This event, which occurs only once every four years, is a testament to the power of sports to unite people from all corners of the globe.

Paris will be the gathering place for teams and athletes from over 200 countries to compete and unite in a global celebration of sportsmanship.

For many athletes, the Olympic games are not just a competition but a jubilant celebration of their unwavering dedication and relentless hard work. Their journey is a powerful testament to the human spirit and the relentless pursuit of excellence, inspiring us all.

But the Olympic Games are also a treasure trove of storied headlines. The USA 92 Dream Team brought star power to the Barcelona Olympics with the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, Michael Phelps winning 8 Gold Medals at the Beijing Olympics, and Cathy Freeman winning Olympic Gold in the 400m at the Sydney Olympics.

These feats have not only inspired a generation of young people worldwide but also instilled in them a sense of hope and inspiration, encouraging them to grow and bring awareness to their sports.

Rivalries form a vital part of competition at the Olympic Games. For me, the two biggest Rivalries at the Olympics will take place in the swimming pool and on the track.

Australia and the USA have been long-standing rivals in the pool, and in more recent years, the Jamaican track team has slowed the USA Dominance on the track.

The war of words between these rivals has already started, and after watching their Olympic Trials, times will be fast in the pool and on the track.

For many South Africans, the Olympic Games are close to our hearts. Coming from sports isolation due to political policies. We are relatively new to the recent Olympic movement. However, since our readmission in 1992, we have punched above our weight, making significant strides in various sports.

Who can ever forget our Olympic Heros, Elena Meyer Penny Heynes, Josia Thugwane, Hezekiel Sepeng, Terance Parkin, Roland Schoeman, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, Caster Semenya, Luvo Manyonga, Wade van Niekerk, Chad Le Clos and Tatjana Schoenmaker who have all inspired South Africans young to be great.

With the Olympics only a few weeks away, get into the spirit of competition, cheer on your favorite athletes, and find inspiration in their marvelous feats and pursuit of excellence.
