Kip Movin

With beautiful views and friendly routes, running is a widespread activity in Discovery Bay.

No matter what time of day it may be, you will always come across a group of runners hitting the roads of Discovery Bay, training for the next marathon, half marathon, triathlon, or just looking to stay fit and healthy.

Running is an excellent aerobic exercise that helps build cardiovascular fitness, strengthen muscles, and help you maintain a healthy weight.

When I moved to Discovery in 2012, a well-known resident shared his passion and love for running with the DB Community - Thomas Kiprotich.

Originally from Kenya, Thomas is widely known in the running community in Hong Kong. Having won multiple big-name races in Hong Kong and Asia, Thomas has been sharing his passion, love, and knowledge of running with Discovery Bay Community for more than 10 years.

After returning from Kenya, Thomas is ready to continue coaching in Discovery Bay through his company, Kip Movin ….. The Kenyan Way.

His training sessions are available for all abilities and ages five years and above. The session will occur Monday to Friday at Sienna Park from 4 pm to 6 pm and Saturday from the beach playground from 8 am to 9 am.

You need to worry if you are a beginner or looking to return to running but are unsure. Thomas's friendly and relaxed manner will make you feel comfortable and inspire you.

His sessions are structured, and all ability levels train together. This can be very motivating and encouraging for all those in the session.

Runners will start and finish the session all together, with everyone working at their own pace and towards their goals. Some may be looking to improve their fitness; others might be training for their next marathon, but no matter your goals, everyone is working together to improve.

There are many other benefits to joining Thomas’s Kip Movin. One of those is the social aspect. You will get the opportunity to meet and connect with new people. You will hold each other accountable to your goals and be surprised that you have more in common than just running.

As 2024 progresses, dust off those runners, get in touch with Thomas at Kipmovinthomas@gmail.com and give it a go.

You never know. You might be on the start line at next year's Standard Charter Marathon.
