Ice Hockey - Greater Bay Championships 2

When you stop and sit back and think about Ice Hockey, what is the first thought that comes to mind?

Speed -  Players can move the puck up and down the rink within seconds.

But there is more to Ice Hockey than Speed. Ice Hockey requires a lot of teamwork and cohesion; players must be skillful, strong, and physical.

Ice Hockey may differ from Hong Kong's mainstream sports, but you will find players in the leagues at Mega Box or see them carrying a big equipment bag off the Discovery Bay ferry on the way to the Discovery Bay Rink.

One person involved in promoting the game in Hong Kong is Keith Fong.

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Keith has a great passion and extensive knowledge of Ice Hockey and has experience in the ice, snow, and ice rink management industry.

Keith and his team manage Ice Hockey tournaments and leagues across Asia through his Powerplay Sports and Entertainment company.

They aim to work with individuals and governing bodies to promote and bring the best people in Ice Hockey and Entertainment to Asia.

Staying true to their word, Powerplay has organized a world-class Ice Hockey event at the Discovery Bay Rink from 25 - 27 May. - The Greater Bay Championships 2

First held in 2019, the Greater Bay Championships 2 will see the HK Tigers made up of expat players in Hong Kong, take on the Yokohama Grits, a professional team from Japan in a series of games over the weekend.

There is a lot of excitement around the tournament in the Ice Hockey community as it is the first Greater Bay Championships since the pandemic.

Professional athletes rarely come to Discovery Bay.

It will be an excellent opportunity for Discovery Bay residents and Ice Hockey fans across Hong Kong to see these athletes show off their skills on the ice.

But the Hong Kong Tigers and Yokohama Grits won't be the only team's action over the 3-day tournament.

There will be Adult Division 2 games happening, made of recreational league players from Russia, Japan, Philippines, and 2 teams from Hong Kong.

To add excitement to the weekend, you can watch kids participate in the u7, u9, and u13 Division games.

Teams from Australia, Shenzhen, Singapore, and Hong Kong and one team from South East Asia will take part.

Having kids participate in the tournament will positively impact, inspire and expose young players and skaters to take up the sport.

Having a world-class event in Discovery Bay promotes our community and helps to grow and promote the sport within our community and the wider sporting community of Hong Kong.

Admission is free, so get down and cheer on the players participating in the tournament and show them the true sporting spirit of Discovery Bay.
