Sports have the power to change communities and influence everyone involved in it.
That resonates with the Discovery Bay community. With its inclusive nature, sports have a strong identity in the DB community.
It has connected people from different backgrounds, fostered a deep sense of belonging, encouraged fitness and wellness, and formed lifelong bonds, making everyone feel welcomed and accepted.
The DB 10K has been a significant event on the sporting calendar and a shining example of community spirit. Organized by local DB residents, hundreds have taken to the streets, showcasing their collective pride and commitment to sports.
However, the race has not occurred due to COVID-19, and many previous organizers have left Hong Kong.
But that's all about to change. We're on the brink of a new chapter for the DB 10 K, and it's filled with promise and excitement.
DB Resident Kate Halstead, a keen road and trail runner, will be working to bring the race back to the Discovery Bay community.
The race had a special place in Kate's heart as the DB 10K got her into running.
With the help and support of the BUFFCO DB Running group, a local running community known for their passion for the sport, and individuals like Harry and Chris, the event is in the early stages of organization.
Chris, who organizes TEAM FEAR, has brought much knowledge and experience to the organization, which has been a great help.
The race is scheduled for 9 November and will be aimed at runners of all ability levels and everyone who would like to walk or take the baby in the pram around DB. This will create a great community spirit on race day.
Even though the race strongly focuses on fun and participation, it also aims to continue building and promoting community and togetherness by giving back to those in need.
They plan to support a charity of their choice which focuses on giving back. This was a strong foundation of past races, and the organizers will keep these foundations, helping and giving to those who need it. More details about the chosen charity will be announced soon.
There's still much to do with only three months before the race. If any DB Residents would like to get involved with organizing, promoting, or volunteering on the race day, they can contact Kate directly or reach out on the DB 10K for charity Facebook.
We eagerly anticipate the community's support and the participation of runners of all abilities. Your involvement makes this event unique, and we look forward to seeing you at the starting line.
